Unix Server Retirement

NANCY: Here's what I can find from the documentation in the folders. This is from an email to the board when we were in process of authorizing funds for these dual server PC's. Dated April 5, 2000.

ERNIE: I found the Red Hat Linux, v. 6.1 that you have (Sept. 1999 or March 2000). See the system requirements (below). To run Windows 7 you would have to replace the total inside of the case including the power supply. In other words it would be getting a new PC. PCs are a 3 year cycle. Windows 7 requires a min. of 4 GB of memory. I have 8 GB and the new motherboards are made for 16 GB. The new video cards have 2-3 GB of memory and require 600+ watts of power from the power supply. I have 1 GB and a 500 watt supply.

The PC's are 128 MB. The motherboard shows it can go to 768 MB if all the slots are full. I do not know were you would get the kind of memory to match. Most Linux Server OS require around 200 MB min.. So if the motherboard had 2 slots filled (128 MB each), that would be enough. The other thing is the CPU (Celeron processors). There is no way to put the right processor on the motherboard without replacing everything. Linux has really grown up.
