I got 30x2min CCD images of the Sep 15 coordinates using a Takahashi Mewlon 300 - 3572mm telescope in the dark skies of Arizona! 10 with a clear filter and 20 with a red filter.
Steve Havas
Steve's images, below, were secured between 1:30 and 3:30 AM on Sat Sep 21, 2002. Included are 6 dark images needed for background on the summary. Steve also garnered NEAT and DSS FITS files for comparison purposes. The NEAT image needs a vertical flip to align with Steve's images. These are all FITS files, which means one must use a FITS viewer which can be downloaded from a Harvard site. The bright star in the images is SAO 93912. The Sep 15 coordinates of RA 4.400347 Dec 12.14128, converted, are RA 4 24 01, Dec 12 08 29. From the Septbember 28, 2002 Live ZetaTalk IRC Session:
(NancyL) Am I right in understanding that the CCD camera that Steve is using is NOT in an observatory, right?
(NancyL) Thus, it is amateur equipment.
(Lace) It's in a private observatory
(SteveH) That's right Nancy, not in an observatory
(Lace) $20,000 of amateur equipment
(SteveH) Bobs, the scope used for these images was only 11.8"
(Lace) 12"
(SteveH) It was "amateur" equipment
(Lace) Limiting magnitude for that instrument is 14.7
